When it comes to maintaining their boats, most boat owners have all their bases covered. However, the same thing can’t likely be said about their trailers. If you’re like most boaters, you probably have no clue as to what to look for or how to address potential or existing problems in your boat trailer. Considering that the trailer is what your entire investment is riding on, you need to take as much care of it as you do your boat. Here are a few areas of your boat trailer you need to keep a close eye on.

Trailer rollers make the loading and unloading of the boat easier. If you notice that loading and unloading your boat is getting a bit more difficult to do than usual, it may be time for a trailer roller(s) replacement.

Trailer tires are a special grade of tire designed to handle heavy loads. Regardless of their innate durability, trailer tires are still prone to puncture just like any other tire. Check your boat trailer’s tires and look for signs of deterioration, bulges, or punctures. If you observe any of these flaws in your tires, have them checked by a tire specialist or replace them with a new set.

Make sure that all the wiring connections on your trailer are well-sealed to prevent them from short circuiting once they are immersed in water. Also, make sure the trailer’s grounding bolt is always free from corrosion and rust.
