Boating is one of the most relaxing and rewarding leisure activities you can do, and many enthusiasts buy a boat of their own to fully enjoy this pastime. If you own one, however, you know that having a boat trailer makes it easier to transport your vessel to and from water bodies.

Over time though, your boat trailer will experience wear and tear, particularly on the axles. Boat trailer axles are commonly made from hollow steel tube and suspended below the trailer’s main frame so the tires and suspension system can be attached.

If it’s time to replace the axle, begin by lifting the trailer using a jack and remove the tires with the tire iron. Then unbolt the leaf springs from the axle, followed by the front hanger so you can slide out the busted axle. With that done, you can slide in the replacement axle, and bolt the leaf spring hanger and leaf spring itself back in place. Lastly, reinstall the tires and take off the jack.

As with your car, knowing how to do repair work like replacing a trailer axle will save you considerable money in the long run. Of course, don’t forget to purchase quality axles to ensure top performance and longevity.
